Description: The elegance of Paris came to the City of Vaughan on April 13th at Universal Eventspace. It was a stylish evening of delicious food, live entertainment and a silent auction in support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and in memory of Joey Conte. Joey passed away in October 2011 at the age of 23. Following his passing, the Joey Conte Foundation (JCF) was formed by a group of Joey's friends and family. Inspired by Joey's caring nature, they decided to raise funds for community groups Joey had been involved with to keep his memory alive. Joey's passion and goal in life was to become a firefighter and he had just applied to become a firefighter with the Vaughan region before his passing. Over the past six years, the Joey Conte Foundation Gala has raised over $150, 000 for the Burns and Plastics Unit at SickKids. Dr. Joel Fish, Medical Director of the Burns Program at SickKids attended this year's event along with patient families from the Burns Unit. This year, funds raised by the Joey Conte Foundation Gala will go towards the purchase of cribs for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and other areas at SickKids where cribs are needed. Proceeds from the event will also support Project Horizon, a campus redevelopment plan that will allow for SickKids to deliver high-quality specialized care by investing in new facilities and technology.
