Description: The "Live Well, Take Action: Ambassador Program for East Asian Youth" successfully hosted its Student Celebration on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019! The student participants not only showcased their community group projects but they also managed a variety of event roles throughout the evening. The program managers commend them for their courage and ability to take risks. It was truly a community effort, as there were over 120 people in attendance - children, family, friends, colleagues, teachers, school administrators and other community members. Maria Montejo, a traditional knowledge keeper of the Deer Clan and a member of the Jakaltec/Popti (Mayan) community opened the Student Celebration with Indigenous teachings. She was followed by Steven Zhou, a producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), who highlighted the need for Asian communities to recognize and address the emerging issues in Canada. Grade 8 students Rachel Cheng and Victoria Zhou were also onstage to perform original spoken word pieces. Both of them were finalists at this yearâs York Region District School Boardâs Slam Poetry Finals. The "Live Well, Take Action: Ambassador Program for East Asian Youth" is a collaboration between ALPHA Education and the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter.
